# Installing NVIDIA drivers on Windows

## What are Drivers?

A driver is a piece of software that acts as a translation layer between the applications & OS running on your computer and the physical hardware present in the system. By default when you install Windows using one of our templates on your GPU VDS, you may notice that the GPU doesn't show up on your applications or even in the task manager. To get Windows & your applications to detect your GPU, you'll need to install the relevant drivers for it.

## Installing Drivers

### 1. Login to your VPS via RDP and open up your web browser.

### 2. Find the right drivers

On your browser, open the official Nvidia Website and go to the Drivers Download Page. Then, type the name of your card correctly in field 1 and select it. Next, select the correct OS and the Language in Dropdown 2 and 3 respectively, then click `Find` \[4]. The official link to the page is: <https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/>

On the page that opens, click `View` \[1] and then click on `Download` \[2] on the page that opens after clicking on `View` \[1].

### 3. Installing the Driver

Start by opening the downloaded executable and leave the inputs as default and follow the on-screen instructions, then click on the `OK` button.

Then read the License agreement, and if you agree to it's contents click `AGREE AND CONTINUE`

Next, select the Express option, and click `NEXT`

Wait for it to finish installing, and click `CLOSE`

Just like that, you have successfully installed the GPU drivers on your windows VPS.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.synteq.com/gpu-vds/drivers/installing-drivers/installing-nvidia-drivers/installing-nvidia-drivers-on-windows.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
